Here are some of the exciting speakers that will be attending LA CTF!
John Hammond
Cybersecurity Researcher, Educator and Content Creator
John Hammond is a cybersecurity researcher, educator and content creator. As part of the Threat Operations team at Huntress, John spends his days analyzing malware and making hackers earn their access. Previously, as a Department of Defense Cyber Training Academy instructor, he taught the Cyber Threat Emulation course, educating both civilian and military members on offensive Python, PowerShell, other scripting languages and the adversarial mindset. He has developed training material and information security challenges for events such as PicoCTF and competitions at DEFCON US. John speaks at security conferences such as BsidesNoVA, to students at colleges such as the US Naval Academy, and other online events including the SANS Holiday Hack Challenge/KringleCon. He is an online YouTube personality showcasing programming tutorials, CTF video walkthroughs and other cyber security content. John currently holds the following certifications: Security+, CEH, LFS, eJPT, eCPPT, PNPT, PCAP, OSWP, OSCP, OSCE, OSWE, OSEP, and OSED (OSCE(3)).
Prizes
LA CTF will have prizes for both the UCLA and open sections! While there will be two sections for prizes, all of the challenges will be the same for both sections. Prizes will be given in the form of US Amazon gift cards or by arrangement.
UCLA Section
The UCLA Section will be composed of teams that must consist of a maximum of four current UCLA undergraduate students in order to be eligible for prizes.
- 1st place: $200 +

- 3rd place: $100
- 4th & 5th place: $80
- 6th-10th place: $40
UCLA division prizes will be distributed directly to individual team members. Amounts listed are per team.
Open Section
The Open Section will be composed of teams with no size limit and can be from anywhere to be eligible for prizes. All skill levels and experiences are welcomed!
- 1st place: $500
- 2nd place: $300
- 3rd place: $200
- 4th & 5th place: $100
Open division prizes will be distributed to the email linked to the given winning teams. Amounts listed are per team.
There will also be a raffle for CrowdStrike backpacks. Come in-person for a chance to win!
Writeup Prizes:
- A pool of $400 worth of prize money will be given out via writeup prizes, of which $200 is for UCLA students.
- Writeup prizes are made out to the individual or group that made and submitted a winning writeup.
- Writeup judgement will be done by the LA CTF Organizers collectively. Decisions made by the organizers are final.
- The writeup submission form will be active for 1 week after the CTF is over, and will be posted in our discord.
